The 'Ace' has spent the year giving back to the company he's already given so much to with such a beautiful body of work, offering Jay White a Tokyo Dome payday at WrestleKingdom before offering his legacy and record IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign to Kazuchika Okada in a spectacular final successful defence for 'The Rainmaker'.

Still a babyface icon, Tanahashi could be used in something of a utility role for the tournament, and just as believably go all the way in it. NJPW are lucky to still have his services at such a high level.
