Considering he has to follow on from the reign of a cheating champion, Ricochet lets everyone in NXT know that they're all worthy of a championship opportunity, but they just have to prove how much they want it. Up steps The Velveteen Dream, who has a bit of unfinished business with the champion, with a rivalry that is currently ongoing as we speak. Dream says he is more deserving over anyone else, having started on Tough Enough and worked his socks off to become one of the most charismatic performers in wrestling today.
Following an impressive victory over newest NXT signing Keith Lee on TV, Dream is granted his championship match against Ricochet at the TakeOver on Royal Rumble 2020 weekend. His entrance is slightly over the top as per usual, but his in-ring work is at an all-time high. He and Ricochet put everything they have on the line, but Dream catches the champion mid-flight and follows with the Purple Rainmaker elbow for the surprising but well deserved victory.
