4. Sasha Banks And Bayley Vs Asuka And Io Shirai Vs Others
Time for another blast of cynicism.
Despite the superficial promotion of parity, WWE’s women still get far less time to shine on the grandest stage than the company’s men. Looking back at the last few years, we see one women’s title match at or near the top of the card, the other women’s title given a prominent spot and the rest of the women’s roster left to scrabble for the tag titles.
There doesn’t seem to be any particular reason why WWE would change that next year. So while it would be great to predict a string of grudge matches fans can invest in, realistically we’re probably in for more of the same. Expect Sasha Banks and Bayley reunite, two Asian women to be paired together because reasons and other women paired up seemingly at random.
At least those paired up in some sort of multi-women tag affair escape the fate of not being featured whatsoever. Although it’s hard to see how a match like this would have been stature enhancing for the likes of Asuka, Bayley or Alexis Bliss had they been included this year.
