The feud between the World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio and Orton was a completely organic one, with a hint of controversy. Mysterio won the 2006 Royal Rumble match which made him the number one contender for the big gold belt. In winning the Rumble Rey last eliminated Orton, who finished second. This set up a match between the pair at No Way Out with Mysterio's title match on the line, a match that Randy won. Five days later on SmackDown, General Manager Theodore Long announced that the World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 22 would be a Triple Threat match with the Champion Angle defending against Mysterio and Orton. As the match neared its conclusion, Mysterio performed a 619 on Orton, followed by a West Coast Pop for a successful pin fall victory. After the match, Mysterio celebrated with Chavo and Vickie Guerrero as Rey's run to the top was in memory of Eddie Guerrero who died the previous November.
