Ranking 2016's WWE PPV Endings From Worst To Best
3. Extreme Rules - Seth's Grand Return
As far as 2016's great wrestling moments go, it's hard to top Seth Rollins' return. Sure, WWE dropped the ball by having him play heel the very next night on Raw, but Rollins' unexpected appearance set the wrestling world ablaze.
Roman Reigns had just defeated AJ Styles to retain his WWE Championship. It was an outstanding match, one of the year's very best, and while many fans pined for a Styles title run, few could have been disappointed with the contest. It was Reigns' best individual WWE performance to date, and for Styles, another outstanding match in a year full of them.
The night wasn't over, however, and Reigns' celebration wasn't to last. Seth Rollins emerged to a gigantic pop from the crowd, and as he destroyed the WWE Champion with a Pedigree, there wasn't a fan in the building who wasn't on their feet. The Architect was celebrated like a conquering hero, and in that moment, he seemed like the perfect choice to end Reigns' unwanted title reign.
It was the first time Rollins had been in a WWE ring since injuring his knee in November. He'd never lost the WWE Championship in the first place, and this, coupled with the sympathy gained from missing such a prolonged period of action, looked to set him up as WWE's biggest babyface. It's a shame that the full turn didn't transpire until several months later, but that doesn't detract from Extreme Rules' epic conclusion.
