Ranking 2016's WWE PPV Endings From Worst To Best
1. Survivor Series - Goldberg Shocks The World
Love it or hate it, no singular event sent more shockwaves rippling through the world of wrestling in 2016 than Brock Lesnar's stunning loss to Goldberg.
Survivor Series was absolutely huge. Goldberg, at the age of 49, had made a perfect return to the company. His family-driven motivations were rock solid, his promos were excellent, and the fans accepted him with open arms. Against all odds, Goldberg immediately became the company's biggest babyface, and his rematch with Brock Lesnar suddenly went from something nobody really wanted to see, to something no self-respecting wrestling fan could miss.
There were so many questions heading into the match. Was Goldberg in fighting shape? Would his ageing body be able to withstand Brock's furious onslaught after 12 years away from the ring? How long would Goldberg be able to fight for, and would the match descend to the drudgery of their WrestleMania XX stall-fest?
Something that seemed absolutely unquestionable, however, was the outcome. It was universally assumed that Lesnar would send Goldberg into permanent retirement with a final loss, then move onto the next big challenge. His victory was a sure thing, and the idea of Goldberg coming in and toppling WWE's prized asset seemed laughable beforehand.
But that's exactly what happened, and Goldberg didn't just beat Lesnar: he destroyed him. Two Spears, a Jackhammer, and 85 seconds were all it took to secure the year's most shocking result, and the rivalry looks set to continue through 2017.
Lesnar just didn't take Goldberg seriously, and he paid dearly for it. Sure, his monstrous aura takes a dent from this, but he'll quickly recover his lost momentum. For now, it establishes Goldberg as a legitimate threat heading into the new year, and keeps the company's hottest feud going. There's a very real chance that Goldberg vs. Lesnar could headline WrestleMania 33, and it's all thanks to Survivor Series' closing events.
