15. Fastlane - An Unwanted Face-Off

WWE's main event scene was stuck in a Roman Reigns/Triple H-induced rut by the time Fastlane came around. The company made it blatantly obvious that Triple H would win the Royal Rumble and effectively set-up a WrestleMania main event with Reigns. Not for the first time, WWE were attempting to re-tell the textbook spirited babyface vs. evil authority figure story that had brought them so much success during Austin vs. McMahon, and it flopped.

Many fans had already accepted WrestleMania's fate at this point, but for everyone else, Fastlane was the point of no return. The grim confirmation came when Reigns defeated Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar in a number one contender's match to seal his spot in the Mania main event, and while the match itself was pretty exciting, few wanted Reigns to triumph, particularly over such popular opposition.

But it happened, and as Reigns celebrated, a suit-clad Triple H strolled out with the WWE Championship in-hand. The duo started each other down inside the ring, before eventually turning towards the WrestleMania 32 banner plastered high inside the arena. The foreshadowing was over: the main event that nobody wanted was finally official, and Fastlane's final scene is a perfect microcosm not only of Reigns' lack of popularity, but the problems that plague Raw's main event scene to date.
