1988 was a huge year for Ted DiBiase.

The Million Dollar Man headlined WrestleMania IV against “Macho Man” Randy Savage, losing in the finals of the tournament to crown a new WWF Champion. This came just two months after Andre the Giant had strapped the same title around DiBiase’s waist as part of his plan to buy the championship.

But DiBiase’s next tournament would go better for him, as he won the King of the Ring tournament that fall, defeating Savage in the finals. After that, DiBiase would create the Million Dollar Championship and continue on a winding career with WWF that lasted until 1993, when he retired from wrestling.

As with Don Muraco, it’s tough to rate DiBiase’s reign, as it was not even a televised tournament at this point.
