15. Unforgiven 2003
Bad timing and a lot of ego led to Triple Hs second World Championship run being much longer than it should have been. When Goldberg debuted in the WWE the night after Wrestlemania, the plan always was going to be for him to take the belt from Hunter at Summerslam. However, Triple H got a pretty bad groin injury in the summer, and rather than vacating the title and taking time off, which would have been the prudent move, Hunter chose to work through the injury, wearing ugly-looking girdle-style tights and barely wrestling. The singles match at Summerslam was changed to an Elimination Chamber. Goldberg tore it up, and Triple H barely wrestled due to his limitations. He still got the victory and retained the title, when the right move probably should have been to have Goldberg win the belt anyway. Still, the creative team was adamant about having Hunter drop the belt to Goldberg in a singles match, but by the time it rolled around at Unfrogiven, nobody cared. The pop for Goldbergs title win was incredibly weak. Jim Ross tried to feign excitement on commentary, but it came off forced. The match wasnt bad given the limitations of the two wrestlers, but he heat was nonexistent. By putting Goldbergs career on the line, the creative team inadvertently telegraphed the finish, so fans were waiting for the spear and jackhammer. Elsewhere on the card, Kane and Shane McMahon had the first match in their awful feud, the Dudley Boyz won the tag team championships, and Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross faced Al Snow and The Coach in a match with no announcers that went five minutes longer than it should have.
