Some will say that this match is ranked too high, but let’s not lose sight of both the significance and the spectacle of this match: Brock Lesnar essentially squashed living WWE icon John Cena to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Lesnar delivered 16 German suplexes to a clearly outmatched Cena en route to winning his first world title in more than a decade. Michael Cole described the match by saying, “It wasn’t even close,” which was one of the truest, if understated, comments about it. Cena never had a chance in a match that looked more like it belonged on Superstars than the main event of SummerSlam.

Brock would hold the title until WrestleMania XXXI the following spring, when Cena would finally capture gold again, this time as United States Champion.
