If ever there was a “get off the schneid” match, this was certainly it.

Goldberg was coming off a horrific bout against Undertaker at Super Showdown, and Dolph Ziggler wasn’t going to let anyone forget it. Heading into SummerSlam, Ziggler constantly mocked Goldberg as being a joke of a wrestler. At first, it seemed like he was just burying the legend as a WWE brass avatar, but it turned out to be much more than that.

After weeks of taking shots, Dolph found himself signing a contract against Miz for SummerSlam… or so he thought. After signing on the dotted line, Ziggler found out that his opponent actually was Goldberg, which led to an unlikely match. Dolph got the early advantage with two superkicks, but Goldberg leveled the Showoff and quickly put him away.

But it was the aftermath that match this confrontation so much fun. Dolph, still writhing on the mat, grabbed a mic and taunted Goldberg as he left the arena. So Goldberg returned and speared Ziggler into a quivering mess of jelly. But Ziggler wasn’t done – he taunted again, and ate a tremendous spear that cut Dolph in half.

It was the kind of moment that could have been overdone, but it got a huge reaction, telling you it was the right call to put Dolph down like that, and it made Goldberg look like a damn star.
