Moving past the torrid and idiotic rivalry with DX in 2006, Vince got back to basics in early 2007 after stumbling into one of the highest drawing programmes of all time with an old familar face.

Back when Donald Trump's presidential candidacy was merely the pipe dream of an absurd buffoon instead of a to-do list item of an absurd bufoon, the 'Apprentice' host rocked up on Vince McMahon's show to play the smiling face of capitalist megalomania as a counterbalance to Vince's evil empire act.

With Umaga and Bobby Lashley as their respective physical threats, Trump and McMahon went to war at WrestleMania 23 with their carefully coiffured locks on the line in a financially rewarding spectacle that left the Chairman red-faced and egg-shaped.

Deciding to claw back credibility in a nihilistically hilarious manner, Vince took to wearing a do-rag and street clothes then enacted direct revenge on Lashley himself by stealing his ECW Title at April's post-WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.

With the brand already butchered by a woeful December supercard, it mattered not that McMahon carried their title, especially when he over-egged his part to such a degree that he became impossible to dislike. His loss to Lashley the following month triggered the next deeply unsettling period of the character's lifespan...
