Ranking Every WrestleMania Retirement From Worst To Best

7. Triple H - WrestleMania 38

Triple H officially emotionally announced his retirement when opening night two of WrestleMania 38. Okay, it wasn’t particularly emotional, The Game said thanks before bellowing out a welcome to WrestleMania, leaving his boots behind him in the middle of the ring. It was a retirement ceremony of sorts, albeit one in which Hunter chose to turn the focus away from himself and onto the show. Over the last few years, focusing on the current stars has been Triple H’s MO.

This is all sorts of ironic really, considering how much of his pomp was spent ensuring that nobody came close to his spot on top of the card. Triple H is an all-timer in WWE, but his famous run on top will always come with a big asterisk and a whopping great caveat. It isn’t fair to say that he married his way into success as he was clearly destined for the main event, but years of being positioned as the greatest of all time with the wrestling world bowing down in front of him? Yeah, the political side of things might have helped there.

It is difficult to judge this one when it comes to the pantheon of WrestleMania retirements. Triple H evolved into one of the best big-match wrestlers in the company, but it wouldn’t be right to put this ahead of some of those to come. Thanks for all the memories, Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Enjoy retirement, until your inevitable return in 15 years or so…

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
