Ranking EVERY WWE Champion From Worst To Best
34. Sgt Slaughter
WWE will forever claim that Sgt Slaughter had so much heat on him that WrestleMania had to move from the mammoth outdoor LA Coliseum to the substantially smaller LA Sports Arena next door, even though they experienced zero issues with punters no longer being able to attend the show.
The reality was different to their insecure fiction of course, and the returning star playing a Iraq sympathiser for cheap heat during the Gulf War simply wasn't that interesting a rival for Hulk Hogan despite the deranged build and Slaughter generating fury from Ultimate Warrior fans after their Royal Rumble clash.
Short, not particularly profitable and controversial to a regrettable extent. These are familiar traits for WWE when they're booking to shock, but the strategy almost never ends up putting the booking on the right side of history. This reign was was no different, even if Slaughter got a delayed spot in the history books years past his peak.
