Mysterio rescuing the United States title from its pretty miserable Theory reign in August might've felt like an odd choice, but overall it was one probably worth doing.

It gave the luchador a title win in the 2020s, making it the fourth consecutive decade in which he had held gold. This is simply a nice footnote on his storied career which, in his words, will probably come to an end within the next year or so. It also helped give the LWO something to rally around, which has proved to be quite an interesting story. Whilst Mysterio made few defences in his 85 days with the belt, seeds were planted the whole time for what could be a fantastic grudge match with former stablemate Santos Escobar.

Mysterio's US title reign wasn't memorable, but it did what it needed to do.
