7. Randy Orton - 2013

Few have been protected quite like Randy Orton was during his stint with the briefcase in tow. Sure, he only held onto it for 35 days, but during that time he won all of his matches bar one—a Triple Threat match at a SmackDown taping, in which he was pinned by Christian after being caught off-guard with a backslide.

That one blemish aside, Orton had plenty of momentum on his side heading into SummerSlam 2013, so perhaps it wasn’t so surprising when he cashed in at the event. Of course, few would have predicted the exact way in which it all went down that night.

After Daniel Bryan had overcome John Cena to win the WWE Championship, Orton showed up and teased a cash-in before seemingly changing his mind. It was at this point that Triple H, who’d been referring Cena vs. Bryan, inexplicably turned on the new champion, laid him out with a Pedigree and allowed Orton to slither in to win the title for himself.

A strong lead-up, another cruelly-timed cash-in and of course the dastardly heel turn made for a dramatic, albeit brief, Money in the Bank run.
