Seth Rollins Royal Rumble 2019

There are Royal Rumbles where it feels like a genuinely big deal, a star-making moment when somebody emerges victorious. For the men’s 2019 Rumble, it was all a bit of a shoulder shrug when Seth Rollins won.

That’s not meant as a slight on Rollins, but more he was a solidified main event talent who was already a two-time World Champion by that point. Seth was the guy given the nod to dethrone Brock Lesnar as the Universal Champion - in a two-minute match, no less - at WrestleMania 35, but he didn’t start his Road to ‘Mania in particularly spectacular fashion, scoring just three Rumble eliminations in 43 minutes.

There was plenty to enjoy about this Rumble, of course, with a Jeff Jarrett return, NXT and NXT UK represented, and an appearance from Nia Jax. Then again, some of the brief amount of time spent in the match by certain talent was a little head-scratching, particularly when you realise that Nia comfortably spent more time in the men’s Rumble (three minutes and nine seconds) than the combined efforts of No Way Jose (two seconds), Xavier Woods (three seconds), Titus O’Neil (five seconds), Bobby Lashley (13 seconds), Jinder Mahal (30 seconds), and Double J (one minute and 20 seconds).
