Ranking Every WWE Title Change On Raw
12. Sycho Sid Def. Bret Hart (17 February 1997)
The first world title change witnessed by Monday Night Raw came in February 1997, more than four years after the show had debuted on the airwaves.
Fittingly, it featured the man who had helped to define the early part of the show's run, Bret Hart, who was defeated by Sycho Sid just 24 hours after winning the belt in a four-way elimination match the previous night at In Your House 13.
The match itself, like all matches involving Sycho Sid, was fairly nondescript, but the ending was a brilliant one, both in terms of drama on the night and building towards WrestleMania 13. Stone Cold - who was one of the men defeated the night before - came down to the ring to cost the Hitman victory.
With Hart soon after adopting his heel-leaning persona, this helped set up his for-the-ages, double-turn Submission Match with the Texas Rattlesnake at the Grandest Stage of The All, perhaps the best 'Mania clash of the 1990s and still one of the greatest the company has ever managed to put on period.
