Ranking Every WWE Title Match At Royal Rumbles Worst To Best

16. Royal Rumble 2001 - Kurt Angle Vs. Triple H

The 2001 Royal Rumble bout between WWF Champion Kurt Angle and Triple H was solid, but ultimately ended up being overshadowed by a great Tag Team Title match, a brilliant Intercontinental Title contest, and an excellent Rumble offering.

At this point, Triple H was one of the best in the world, with Angle himself not too far behind the Game. While the in-ring work on display here was good, the match itself was hindered by the fact that both men were heels. It also didn't help that the only reason the Olympic Hero was able to pick up the W here was due to Steve Austin turning up to pop the crowd and drop Hunter with a Stone Cold Stunner.

Where the rest of the 2001 Royal Rumble PPV was concerned, the Dudley Boyz beat Edge and Christian to become the new Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho bested Chris Benoit to become the Intercontinental Champion in one of the all-time great ladder matches, and the Austin-won Rumble contest stands as one of the best ever outings for January's over-the-top-rope spectacle.
