9. vs Brock Lesnar (2014)

This is admittedly not the most entertaining match ever put on a WWE pay per view, but as a statement victory for Brock Lesnar, it takes some beating. As most wrestling fans will know, Cena’s had a selfish streak in him at times, but by 2014 he was starting to shift away from that indestructible aura, and he could hardly have put a colleague over more strongly than he does here.

At 16 minutes, you couldn’t quite describe this as a squash match, but it’s absolutely not a competitive contest. Lesnar hurls Cena around the ring for a good 15 of those minutes, and has a great time doing it. Along with his toppling of The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX, this decimation of Cena established Lesnar as the final boss of pro-wrestling.

Traditionally Cena would rise above hate and mount an improbable comeback, but every time that’s teased here, Lesnar quickly tears him down to size. It goes on long enough to just about lose the crowd (save for one little boy whose persistent “let’s go Cena” chant oscillates between heartbreak and hilarity), but it does the job brilliantly. Lesnar leaves with the Heavyweight title - good luck getting it back off him.
