Cena and Jericho’s matches don’t get talked about too often, but the pair had terrific chemistry and put on a fantastic match here that might just have stolen a somewhat odd SummerSlam. If Cena was almost the finished article the previous year, he doubles down and then some here, feeling like an established star.

The pair find themselves relatively low down on the card despite fighting for Cena’s WWE title, but they prove that they probably ought to be headlining with a fast paced and well worked match. Y2J is on his way out and sort of between gimmicks, but he’s clearly invigorated by working with the rocket-strapped Cena.

The champ, for his part, has his act completely down by this point, launching the five moves of doom as well as his cool top rope leg drop before catching Jericho with an inventive tilt-a-whirl Attitude Adjustment for the win.

The result’s never really in doubt which takes a tiny bit of shine off the match, but a hot crowd (partisan but not quite turning on Cena) and electric pace makes this an unsung gem on both guys’ resumes.
