Ranking The Subsequent Success Of Every NXT Champion
5. Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks' rise can be traced back to summer 2013, when a lengthy build-up was given over several weeks to a match between her and then-Women's Champion Paige. It seemed random, given Banks' status as a generic babyface at the time, but provided the spark for a character and attitude change that has propelled 'The Boss' through the four years since.
Beginning as an apprentice of Summer Rae, Banks became immortalised on the developmental brand when her progress became intertwined with that of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Bayley - and the match she had with the latter at the first Takeover: Brooklyn still stands as perhaps the best women's match in WWE history.
Saddled somewhat by being tethered to Naomi and Tamina after her main roster debut, Sasha was nevertheless kept away from Charlotte in singles competition for the best part of a year, enabling them to engage in a lengthy rivalry over the title. They exchanged it several times, with Charlotte always winning on pay-per-views and Sasha always winning on Raw rematches and the pair currently share the record with four title reigns each.
As the third-youngest member of the main roster (after Noam Dar and Paige), Sasha will certainly be around for a long time yet. Her best work has always been as a heel, so a turn seems inevitable sooner rather than later.
Either way the sky is the limit, if she is booked correctly.
