It's funny how emotionally removing yourself from this one can completely change your opinion on it.

When this match was first announced, many thought Shane McMahon should win it because, due to the stipulation, 'Taker was standing in the way of the future. And now the majority of us scoff at the fact that we were supposed to buy Shane McMahon as a legitimate threat to the most destructive force in WWE history... inside Hell In A Cell.

Nonetheless, that's the story they went with and that's the story they told - mostly pretty well - as Shane attempted to daredevil his way to what would have been one of the biggest upsets of all time. However, the endless time-wasting undercut the audience's enjoyment of it as a hushed silence sporadically fell upon the match.

For a match that was basically designed for a shocking Shane spot, it did alright in the end. They told a solid story in the ring while the aforementioned spot lived up to expectations. However, the match dragged on far too long and that ultimately prevented it from truly delivering.
