It goes without saying, Kane and The Undertaker's match in the ring didn't matter. WrestleMania 20 was all about Taker's return. The Phenom had been absent since the preceding Survivor Series where he had been buried alive by a combination of The Big Red Machine and Vince McMahon. Heading into Mania at MSG, there was genuine anticipation as to exactly what the Undertaker would return as. It proved to be a return to the 'Deadman' gimmick of old, as it should have been, complete with the reappearance of Paul Bearer. The match itself was a pretty dull affair. You could tell Undertaker had been out of action for around four months while it was clear Kane knew what his role was. In all reality, the match was a slightly extended squash match. Kane started off brightly but was well beaten in the end. Who cares about the match. We got our Deadman back!
