14. Royal Rumble

reigns styles payback

What happened: For the first time in history, the WWE World Champion was forced to defend his title in the Royal Rumble match. The champion, Roman Reigns, entered at number 1 and after lasting just about the whole match (except for an odd segment where he was beaten up - but not eliminated - by The League of Nations and took a backstage break of his own accord), he was faced with the number 30 entrant: Triple H. HHH eliminated Reigns, then tossed out Dean Ambrose to claim the title.

Why it sucked: Once again, it was just so obvious. When Roman Reigns beat Triple H down at TLC 2015, it was clear that a match between them was going to headline WrestleMania, and when Vince McMahon announced Reigns's title was on the line in the Royal Rumble, it was equally clear that HHH would return and claim it without actually beating Reigns or blowing the singles match between the two. Add to that the fact that the 46-year-old executive was getting the nod over an active talent, and the company felt completely bereft of ideas.
