Vince McMahon made a surprise return at WWE Survivor Series 2021 last night, appearing on camera for the first time since WrestleMania 37's first night (10 April), when he welcomed the live crowd back after over a year of empty arena shows owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chairman and CEO was involved in a night-long storyline featuring a £100 million golden egg gifted to him by The Rock. Sitting proudly on his desk in a segment with Roman Reigns, the egg (a prop from Rock's new Netflix movie, Red Notice) went missing later in the evening, prompting Vince to order the SmackDown roster to attend night's Raw to find the culprit.

Promoting Red Notice was one of the reasons behind McMahon's return with the egg storyline.

The second, mused Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, was to pop a television rating for tonight's episode of Raw, with the idea being that additional fans would tune in to see Vince - and the continuation of the egg whodunit.

The Red Notice promotion was one of many reasons contributing to widespread fan disappointment when Dwayne Johnson ended up not appearing on the show.
