REAL Reason WWE Scrapped This Brock Lesnar Match

This former WWE star thought for sure he was about to wrestle Brock Lesnar, but then...

Ex-WWE star Dio Maddin/Mace was certain that he was set for a match vs. Brock Lesnar following a memorable F5 spot on the 4 November 2019 episode of Raw.

Lesnar hit his finish through the announce table as Maddin performed commentary duties on the flagship, and WWE got a lot of mileage from replays of the bump. Now, Mace has told WrestlingNews.co that he did some extra in-ring training behind the scenes after seeing the numbers that segment pulled on YouTube and social media.

The-then commentator thought for sure he was being lined up for a revenge bid vs. Brock, but Vince McMahon scrapped the whole thing. Apparently, the old WWE boss thought "it would confuse the fans" who didn't know Dio/Mace was even a wrestler.

You're probably wondering why McMahon bothered to book the skit in the first place then. Mace himself isn't 100% on that, and he doesn't know why he was then randomly shunted into the RETRIBUTION angle instead. That came completely of out left field for him.

Maddin expected to get crushed in just a few minutes by Lesnar, but thought it'd lead to bigger things for him. Not quite.
