Ace Austin was originally set to achieve his goal of becoming the youngest Impact World Champion in history.

Speaking on his House of Hardcore podcast, Tommy Dreamer, one of the creative team members at Impact Wrestling, revealed that management had planned to crown 'The One True Ace' as the World Champion not once, but twice. The first time saw Austin deemed "not ready yet", while the second saw plans change when Trey Miguel returned from his concussion over the summer.

Thanks to Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the following transcript:

You have twice come so so close to becoming the champ. The first time was 'he's not ready.' The second time it was when Trey got hurt, he got a concussion. We filmed two different finishes with you and Wentz. I told Wentz, from that performance, we got a singles star in Wentz. We were about to pull the trigger on making you the champ and had already put you with Fulton. It was all contingent on Trey being able to come back from his concussion. Trey coming back kind of screwed you from being champ.

By the sounds of things, Ace Austin would have been the World Champion throughout the summer period. While the run he did have with Madman Fulton in the tag title scene was fine, being the World Champion at this point would have been far more ideal for 'The Inevitable'.

Ace now heads into Genesis on 9 January as he returns to the X division to enter the fourth Super X Cup tournament.
