Report: Kevin Owens Expected To Leave WWE
The latest on Kevin Owens, whose WWE contract comes up in January 2022.
People within WWE believe that Kevin Owens will leave the promotion when his current contract expires in January 2022, reports Jon Alba of Living the Gimmick.
Alba consulted with multiple WWE sources on the matter. Internally, it seems the company's view is that Owens will soon be gone.
This comes following Fightful Select's report on Owens' contract situation earlier in the week. Although the former Universal Champion signed a five-year deal stretching until 2023 back in 2018, this was restructured before the COVID-19 pandemic's onset last year, with the deal's length shortened. Now, KO could potentially have less than four months left as a WWE wrestler.
Both Owens and The Young Bucks used social media to tease the former Kevin Steen jumping to All Elite Wrestling on Tuesday evening.
Owens has been with WWE since August 2014. Debuting in NXT that December, he quickly rose to prominence and captured the NXT Champion within his first few months on television, before transitioning to the main roster via an acclaimed feud with John Cena the following year.
The apex of Owens' main roster run came in August 2016, when he became Universal Champion. Goldberg ended up squashing him for that belt the following March.
