Gunther is "next in line" for a push towards the top of WWE's card, reports WrestleVotes in collaboration with GiveMeSport.

The outlets note that WWE's creative lead, Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, is a huge fan of the reigning Intercontinental Champion. Gunther is now "next in line" for a monster push, having made a huge impression after "coming into his own" at Clash at the Castle last September. Now, fans shouldn't be surprised to see him eventually become WWE Champion.

Per WrestleVotes:-

Triple H loves him. They all love him ever since he came into his own at Clash at the Castle. I'm not just talking about Triple H, Road Dogg is big on him, Jason Jordan really likes him.

Continuing, WrestleVotes noted that the Austrian will likely step up by summer, with plans to split the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship up doubling the company's available main event slots:-

Once WWE gets two World titles, you double the amount of people in the main event. Gunther is ready to step up. I expect by the summer to see him at the top of the card. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins a World title. He might be next in line.

Gunther has been Intercontinental Champion since 10 June 2022, when he dethroned Ricochet. Having reigned for 261 days at the time of writing, he is currently the longest-running IC champion of the 21st century, with the likes of Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, and Braun Strowman defeated during this period.
