Report: WWE's "Door Is Open" For Matt Hardy Return
Meanwhile, last night's Being the Elite dropped a huge AEW hint.
Matt Hardy hit YouTube to officially announce that he had let his WWE contract expire over the weekend, but don't rule a comeback out completely.
Though he was departing, Hardy stated that this didn't necessarily mean he'd never work for the company again. Pro Wrestling Sheet's Ryan Satin (a correspondent on WWE Backstage) has since stated that WWE aren't closing the door on Matt either - particularly as there's still interest in him working NXT.
WWE.com gave Hardy the official "future endeavours" treatment yesterday evening.
The 45-year-old has been continually linked with AEW over the past few months, thanks, primarily, to the constant back-and-forth teases from both parties. Yesterday's episode of Being the Elite saw this continue:-
Matt and Nick Jackson receive a phone call from somebody with a North Carolina area code in the video above. Matt Jackson quickly realises who it is, then changes his travel plans following the conversation. This came less than 48 hours after AEW President Tony Khan deflected a Hardy-related question during his customary post-PPV media scrum.
That Hardy's WWE contract expired means that he isn't shackled by a non-compete clause. He could theoretically show up on this week's Dynamite.
