Fightful Select has confirmed that Rey Fenix is now officially on WWE's books.

The website noted how this was "pretty much a foregone conclusion" following vignettes airing on last week's episode of SmackDown, but now it's set in stone. Fenix has made the jump from AEW to WWE after some controversial fallout stemming from his decision to tick down All Elite deals alongside brother (and Lucha Bros tag-team partner) Penta last year.

Thankfully, everyone can now move on from that particular saga and start looking towards a brighter future for both. For what it's worth, yet another vignette beamed live during SmackDown's latest broadcast in Bologna, Italy on Friday night. It didn't reveal much more than the prior one, but it has raised questions about exactly what Triple H plans to do with Rey once he debuts in person.

Fightful noted that both Fenix and Penta had been in contact with WWE top brass last year, which inevitably led to their relationship with AEW boss Tony Khan going south. Khan received a fair bit of criticism from fans on social media for tacking on 'injury time' to Rey's contract too.

The good news is that Rey Fenix is officially part of the WWE roster as things stand in late-March 2025. It'll be interesting to see whether or not he debuts in-ring before WrestleMania 41. That's now less than a full month away, so Hunter might be tempted to wait it out and let him make a splash during the traditional post-'Mania lull on TV.

Strong Suggestions Fenix Is SmackDown Bound

Fightful also claimed "the plan as of now" is to introduce Fenix as a solo star on the SmackDown brand. Obviously, that creates some separation between both Lucha Bros, which is certainly a choice by WWE. Most figured they'd come in together as a unit, but Triple H might argue that plans changed due to AEW's 'injury time' decision for Rey.

Penta debuted on the 6 January episode of Raw (the flagship's debut edition on new home Netflix) to critical acclaim, and he's been presented as a big star on the brand ever since. WWE figureheads may therefore view Fenix's imminent arrival as unnecessary dilution for his masked counterpart over on the 'A' show.

That's opinion, of course. It wasn't part of Fightful's write-up, and is just one fan editorialising about exactly why Penta and Rey Fenix could be housed on different shows. Can Fenix make the same sort of impact his sibling did? Fingers crossed on that, but he definitely deserves the chance to spread his wings and fly. Ahem.

There'd be nothing stopping WWE's creative from exploring respective singles runs for both then eventually bringing them together as The Lucha Bros anyway. Or, perhaps Trips will come up with a fancy new name for the pair WWE can trademark as their own.

Things are about to get real interesting, people.
