Rey Mysterio has revealed that he sensationally pitched a heel turn on Dominik before his breakout star son had the chance. Ex-WWE boss Vince McMahon was the one who knocked back Rey's suggestion in the end, and countless colleagues agreed with the then-company chief.

Mysterio told Chris Van Vliet's 'Insight' show that he "briefly" brought the scenario up to McMahon during a meeting whilst he and Dom were still teaming together as a father and son babyface tag. Rey Rey's plan was to shock everyone by going heel instead - in retrospect, he's "kind of glad" he listened to everyone else.

Dominik's character turning out to be a spoiled brat who spurned his family to join Judgment Day was the best thing that could've happened for his WWE career. His dad can see that now, but he fancied scheming a swerve. That's when Rey's peers pointed out that crowds just...wouldn't boo him.

They'd turn on Dom anyway for sure, which is something Mysterio himself realises now. Things worked out, but Rey originally fancied seeing if WWE would run with him as a villain. Vince wasn't having any of it.
