Ric Flair 30 For 30: 15 Things We Learned
12. He Didn't Know Wrestling Was Choreographed
It's ridiculous to consider now, but when Flair began wrestling, he had no idea it was choreographed. In fact, Flair says that after going through Gagne's camp, he became even more convinced of how real it was.
Even when Flair actually moved from training to wrestling, he still wasn't in the know. Flair said, "When I had my first match, nobody ever said a word to me... They just said 'you're gonna wrestle ten minutes'. Nobody told me anything."
When asked how he found out that wrestling was pre-determined, he answered, "Because I was in the locker room listening to them talk."
In an age where kayfabe hangs by a thread, the prospect of a wrestler coming into the industry so naive is impossible to imagine, but the '70s were of course a far simpler time.
