Ric Flair's representative Melinda Morris Zanoni has confirmed the wrestling legend is now awake after news that he was hospitalised last week.

The multi-time world champion, 68, underwent unspecified surgery on Monday, which was reported by his team to have been a success.

Addressing followers on Twitter yesterday, Zaroni said that the Nature Boy was now "awake, communicating and progressing", while adding that - due to "complications" - he would need to rest up "for the first time in 40 years".

Flair's rep later added: "He did cut a promo on a nurse yesterday so anyone that knows @RicFlairNatrBoy knows that's a very, very good sign."

Both Zanoni and Flair's daughter Charlotte have thanked fans for their continued support and well wishes as the wrestling world rallies behind one of its most beloved sons.

Charlotte posted on her Instagram profile on Tuesday: "On behalf of my family and I, we want to THANK everyone for the prayers, texts, calls and support."

Admonishing false rumours about his health, Zanoni has encouraged those following the situation closely not to believe second-hand reports coming out of non-official sources.
