For all his accolades and status as a major player during WWFs heyday, Roddy Piper did not capture a single title during his initial run with the company. The Rowdy Scot was an agitator, but that didnt translate into championship gold. But things changed when Piper came back in the early 90s. Piper would find himself facing the new Intercontinental Champion the Mountie at the 1992 Royal Rumble. In what could only be described as a euphoric moment, Piper put the Mountie down with his patented sleeper and won his first WWF title. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avEpDWdh0ag As you can tell from the crowd reaction, fans were more than happy to congratulate Piper on finally winning a title. The deafening reaction would actually get louder when Piper later entered the Royal Rumble with a chance to also capture the vacant WWF Championship. Hot Rod would come up short in that match, but he had won a huge prize that clearly was a big thank you from the WWF for his role in helping the company reach the level of success it had. Thank you, Roddy, for everything.
