Ryan Nemeth Interview: "Heel", Bringing Awareness To Wrestling, Filmmaking, AEW, More

What advice would you bestow upon up-and-coming filmmakers looking to make a movie like this?

Nemeth: There's a few things I've picked up in my blossoming filmmaking career. You can make a film with no money because we have fancy iPhones and another good point is to make some friends who can do things because when you're first starting out, everyone will want to make things. Someone will have a camera. Someone will know how to edit. You'll have friends who are actors. Someone will know how to write. You just have to be likable, be hard-working and work well with others and you can make a film for no money. In the 30 days we raised the money, I found people who had done successful crowdfunding campaigns and asked them how they succeeded.

Luckily, I have a great network of people from my life and career so far and a nice little fan base, the wrestling fan base. That helps, my brother and friends sharing the campaign around helped. Basically, I had to be the most annoying person in the world for 30 days straight. After that 30 days, great, now you can make a movie. Maggie, our director, had a great way of saying it: everybody has one crowdfund. You can't do a lot of them. Otherwise, people will hate you and will probably stop talking to you [laughs]. Basically, make good friends and be a good friend. Otherwise, making films for free won't happen because people don't like you. People will take the likable, hard-working person over someone who's really, really good at something who just sucks as a person. Be a nice person in general and everything will be great.
