Two torn rotator cuffs put Zayns' career on ice.

Sami Zayn will be out of action for the rest of 2018 after suffering two torn rotator cuffs, WWE.com have confirmed.

The former 'Underdog From The Underground' underwent surgery in Birmingham, Alabama yesterday, with doctors discovering that his injury situation is a lot worse than initially thought.

Sami has been dealing with right shoulder issues for years. He missed seven months after surgery on the joint in 2015, but it didn't cure his ails, and the shoulder's condition has been getting progressively worse ever since.

Though the right shoulder has already been operated on, Sami will need to wait "six or seven" weeks for the left. He faces a long, gruelling recovery process, and isn't expected to return until the first quarter of 2019 at the very earliest, with Sami himself targeting a potential WrestleMania 35 comeback.

This news comes in the midst of a creative nadir for Sami, whose feud with Bobby Lashley drew universal criticism, and concluded with a one-sided squash at Money In The Bank. Zayn's absence at least removes him from said storyline, but that will be of little consolation to a man set to miss the best part of a year.
