Sammy Guevara unified AEW's two TNT Championships on last night's special 'Beach Break' episode of Dynamite, defeating Cody Rhodes in a ladder match.

The bout had been set up over the past few weeks. Rhodes had defeated Guevara to claim the actual TNT Title on Rampage's 25 December episode, which was supposed to lead to a Battle of the Belts rematch on 8 January. Cody's brother, Dustin, came in as a replacement when the younger Rhodes couldn't make the event following a family health scare, with Sammy beating the former Goldust to become interim champion.

Cody returned to television on last week's Dynamite, confirming the ladder match. In Cleveland, he was felled, tumbling to the mat after being clobbered with both belts, rendering him unable to prevent Guevara from rising up and claiming both belts.

Sammy made one successful defence as interim TNT Champion, defeating Daniel Garcia on Dynamite's 12 January episode. Prior to that, Bobby Fish, Ethan Page, Jay Lethal, and Tony Nese were all felled during his run initial TNT run.

Scorpio Sky was shown watching the match from the bleachers, teasing that he may be the first official threat to Sammy's second reign.
