The former Scotty 2 Hotty has requested his WWE release.

Scott Garland, who has been working as an NXT coach since 2016, revealed as much on Twitter on Tuesday, saying that while his current role has given him plenty of "special memories" over the years, he promised himself he'd walk away if he ever felt like he was working solely for a paycheck:-

Today, I have asked for my release from World Wrestling Entertainment. 30 years ago I stepped into a WWE ring for the very first time. I have lived my dream 100 times over. Some of my most special memories will always be from the last five years working with NXT. The black and gold brand was something special and I am proud to have been a small part of that.
I always promised myself that I would never be part of something solely for the paycheck and that was where I was at. I told myself that I would walk away if I ever got to that point, so that is what I have chosen to do. Coaching and producing the stars of NXT will always be a highlight of my life. I love you all more than you will ever know.

Whether or not WWE has granted the 48-year-old's request is yet to be confirmed.

Garland is best known for his work as one half of Too Cool with Brian 'Grand Master Sexay' Christopher between 1998 and 2001, though his WWE appearances stretch all the way back to 2001. Though he left the company on a full-time basis in 2007, he returned to coach the second of four levels of NXT classes in 2016.

As a wrestler, Garland is a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion, notching a reign each with Christopher and Rikishi, as well as a former Light Heavyweight Champion.
