Seth Rollins Added To WWE Royal Rumble Title Match

This past Monday on Raw, Seth Rollins was added to the WWE Title match at the Royal Rumble featuring WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and John Cena. You might recall that WWE had been promoting the Lesnar/Cena match as their last encounter. Now it's changed with Rollins taking part. The storyline reasons for the change is that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon wanted to reward Rollins for bringing back The Authority, so they added him to the match. Since Rollins is also holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, it provides a major twist to the match. A lot of things can happen. According to a report from PWInsider, WWE officials had discussed the possibility of adding Rollins to the match for the past 2-3 weeks. It was something that they likely debated about internally for weeks before deciding on it now. That's a luxury that WWE had since there was six weeks between TLC and the Royal Rumble. It was also noted in the report that a storyline discussed for the match would see Lesnar being upset about Rollins being added to the match. That's because, as we know, a champion can lose the title without even being pinned or submitted in the match. With The Authority back in charge, that could cause issues between them and Heyman/Lesnar, who looked to be on the same page on the December 28 edition of Raw. We'll find out next week since Lesnar and Heyman are expected to be on Raw. There are a lot of scenarios that can come into play with Rollins involved in the match now. Perhaps WWE did it because they have re-considered the idea of Lesnar walking into WrestleMania 31 as the WWE Champion. Maybe they want Rollins to win the WWE Title, then face either Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan while Lesnar faces the other guy. Maybe Rollins is just there to take a pinfall loss so that Cena doesn't have to. Then again, maybe Cena will leave as WWE Champion because we all know that WWE sure loves giving Cena big wins. What the addition of Rollins does is freshen things up a bit. He is one of the best performers in WWE right now and arguably was the wrestler of the year in 2014. We've seen Lesnar vs. Cena enough that maybe the fans would reject it. At least with Rollins in there they can try some different stuff and there's more excitement with all the nearfalls. Thanks to the inclusion of Mr. Money in the Bank, there's a lot of unpredictability for the WWE Title match at the Royal Rumble. That's what is really best for business.
