After the Hardy Boys forcibly vacated their SmackDown tag team straps due to Jeff's nasty knee injury last Tuesday, WWE apparently did not have enough time to come up with a solution for the available championships.

Well, it seems they've located a spare minute this weekend, as they yesterday announced that on this week's episode, Shane McMahon will personally name The Hardys' successors:

"With the state of both the blue brand’s tag team division and the titles in question, Shane McMahon will arrive on SmackDown LIVE this Tuesday to crown new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. What will Shane-O-Mac decree? Find out this Tuesday night."

As easy as that, huh? McMahon, for the few of you still left watching SmackDown, is currently embroiled in his ongoing feud opposite The Miz, which latterly has involved Elias and floating superstar Roman Reigns.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility Shane will forego the sanctity of the SmackDown Tag Team titles in favour of his own heel agenda, either naming himself co-champ with his singing buddy, or otherwise picking a pair designed to p*ss off the crowd. If anyone cares, that is.

The Hardys bagged the belts on the night after WrestleMania 35, but were forced to give them up just weeks into their reign after Jeff picked up a ligament injury which looks set to rule him out for up to nine months.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
