4. Is The Undertaker WrestleMania 31 Match A Good Idea?
One piece of contention is whether WWE should do the Undertaker vs Sting match as planned for WrestleMania 31. The concern is that while it's a marquee big name contest, the WWE icon vs the WCW icon, it's ultimately too predictable to be dramatic. There's simply no way a part timer from WCW is going to beat the Undertaker on the grandest stage of them all. That ruins it for many fans and the fact that it will be face vs face is another factor in why it could end up dull. Sting isn't of the calibre of Shawn Michaels where the wrestling made face vs face worthwhile. The match could struggle. It's more predictable than even this year's Lesnar vs Taker match which has disappointingly ended up the least interesting Undertaker match in years. The other big issue is Sting's age and inactivity. A Wrestling Observer report linked Sting with only singing to wrestle once in his WWE career. That means he's going to have a year and a half of ring-rust on him by the time Mania 31 gets here. He will also be 56 years old. That lack of activity and deterioration will mean he struggles, in a match where Taker is usually matched with able opponents who can help his own worn body through the work. WWE should perhaps consider something different for Sting and go with Undertaker vs Cena next year instead. Still, you can't deny Sting vs Undertaker on paper is a marquee match up. The reality could just end up very different from fan hopes.
