Straight Outta Dudleyville – The Legacy Of The Dudley Boyz DVD Review: 20 Interesting Observations
19. Families Against Pro Wrestling
Believe it or not, both Bubba and D-Von's families were against their choice to get into the pro wrestling business.
D-Von had a football scholarship at college which was going well until he lost his passion in his final year. One day he quit on the spot and announced to his mother that he'd be attending wrestling school - needless to say, she hit the roof and told her son that he was throwing away a promising career on the field.
Bubba's mother was exactly the same. He described how she despised his choice to get into the ring due to the reputation the business had in the early 1990s. "How could I tell my friends my son is a pro wrestler," she would say to him.
However, by the time the pair made it to WWE, their decision to get into the ring was alright by their mothers.
Bubba's mother couldn't wait to tell her friends her son was a WWE Superstar after he showed her his first contract, while D-Von's mom's church friends turned into wrestling fans after seeing him on TV.
When D-Von was back in Long Island he went to church with his mother and told of how she couldn't stop telling people of her pride for her son. D-Von says that while she was doing so, he inched away from her, and when she asked why, he said that lightening couldn't strike in two places at once because she was lying in church!
