10 Best Wrestling Suplex Variations

3. Sleeper Suplex

I think it goes without saying that Minoru Suzuki’s Saka Otoshi is the most vicious move in wrestling, mostly because of the pressure it inflicts on an individual’s neck. The suplex equivalent of this judo-style throw would be the sleeper suplex, and holy moly is it a scary looking move. The sleeper itself used to be a legitimate finishing move in wrestling (most notably used by the late, great ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper) but despite the best efforts of Dolph Ziggler is had faded into a glorified rest spot. The sleeper suplex was the natural progression.

The move itself is simple. Our proud, majestic victor will slap a sleeper hold on their poor, unsuspecting chump of an opponent. Before the fool has time to lose consciousness however, they will find themselves launched backwards over the king’s head, more often than not landing directly on their bonce. Nobody likes being dropped on their head.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
