The Complete A-Z Of The Undertaker

6. U - Urn

The mythical urn carried by Paul Bearer took many forms and at different times had many contents, but the fundamental 'power' it held galvanised the inhuman capacity of The Undertaker in his formative years.

As a heel, it was a control device for Bearer, baiting Undertaker away from unleashing any further fury on his unlucky foes. Following their babyface turns in early-1992, it took on a new life as a recovery aid.

Dramatically held aloft at ringside by Bearer, the Urn would give new life to 'The Deadman', triggering his comebacks from seemingly insurmountable odds.

Over the years the urn had ash (supposedly that of Undertaker's dead parents) inside, as well as green smoke (the 'power' of the Undertaker), and later a giant spotlight that emanated from a much larger version. That was cruelly melted down into a gaudy chain by 'The Supreme Fighting Machine' Kama before a final refactoring to the trophy version that stayed with Bearer for another final year.

The contents may have changed but the symbolism of the Urn's great influence always remained.
