In August 2015, TakeOver: Brooklyn fans went berserk for The Vaudevillains' victory over Blake and Murphy, but the past became the future when The Revival took hold of the gold in November.

For months, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder had been upping their game, whilst upstarts Jason Jordan and Chad Gable emerged as serious threats too. The latterly named American Alpha would enter 2016 as white hot babyfaces, and trade the titles with the old-school pair ahead of their main roster arrival in July. A feud with #DIY cemented Dash and Dawson as the true architects of something beautiful and they too would get the call to start on Monday Night Raw the night after WrestleMania 33. The duos had triggered a renaissance, but neither team would get to smell the roses.

Instead, it seemingly lit a fire under the existing crop. The New Day were reborn in perhaps the best WWE series of the year against The Usos. Jimmy and Jey themselves were sublime, turning babyface by November on a platform of respect following months of impossibly good SmackDown Live! title defences. Over on Raw, The Bar were every bit the measure they claimed to be, engaging in brutal but brilliant wars with The Hardy Boyz and The Shield.

WWE has repeatedly gone to the well with the four squads (and select others), but it's never felt too often. 2017 marked a new golden age for a division tightwad Vince McMahon has always resented.
