The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Of Hulk Hogan's Wrestling Career
1. Later Appearances
The personal controversies that plagued Hulk Hogan’s later life clearly took a toll on his reputation.
In 2015, Hogan was removed from WWE programming and their Hall of Fame for racist comments he had made. He would remain in exile for three years. When he returned, Hulk saw diminished reactions from fans. When he co-hosted WrestleMania 37 alongside Titus O’Neill, fans let Hogan know they didn’t care too much for him.
Hulk turned up on the Raw is XXX show in January 2023, but his mic malfunctioned on him, leading to fans growing restless. It didn’t help that he said nothing of note during his three-minute appearance.
But Hogan’s last appearance in WWE was possibly the worst. Earlier this year, Hulk turned up on the Raw on Netflix debut and was vociferously booed as he stumbled along and tried to plug his Real American Beer. It was a really sad moment, with Hogan blaming it on his political beliefs.
In reality, Hogan’s image never really recovered from the controversies, and younger fans who never saw him wrestle in his heyday didn’t have that connection to the Hulkster. All they saw was a cartoonish musclehead blustering through a meaningless promo that ultimately said nothing. And then his last involvement in WWE was being booed out of the building before one of Raw’s largest television audiences due to the streaming debut on Netflix.
