WWE manages to stick the landing more often than not when it comes to retirement matches. Trish Stratus was the standout performer when the women’s division was an underdeveloped afterthought, so it was a joy to behold her taking on one of the post-revolution era’s best in Charlotte Flair, and better still that she did so in her hometown of Toronto.

This bout proves, as if that was necessary, that Stratus would have excelled were she around today. She looks better than ever against Flair, running through the hits and showing off an aggressive side that was seldom seen in the darker days of women’s wrestling.

Flair, meanwhile, is in her natural role as the female uber-heel. She wields her youth and physicality to put Stratus over even further. There’s a big fight feel here - two titans of different generations in a one off clash.

Flair rightly gets the win, but as a send off for Stratus this is perfection. As she basks in the adulation of the Canadian crowd, she knows she can depart the ring having proved her immense chops one more time.
