The Harsh Reality Of WWE's Recent Improvements

The harsh reality is that WWE can only ever be uneven in quality and directionless under Vince McMahon's hand.

After a string of RAWs that announced themselves in advance in early January, we're back to scrambling. Vince decided to change the WrestleMania 36 card about a month after the Royal Rumble (!). Various male Superstars promised to win the Elimination Chamber match - Roman Reigns is still featured prominently on the advertising - but no such match is scheduled. Roman simply walked up to Goldberg and announced that he was next.

This betrayed the prior decade of world-building, again asking questions of the viewer, and what's worse is that it's even dumber a decision than that. Fans have resented Roman Reigns for five long years because they feel he is entitled to opportunities that he has not earned, and so they had him challenge Goldberg with a strong enough claim that nonetheless isn't faithful to the usual narrative. Devoid of drama and very much entitled, it's as if WWE is begging the drunken 'Mania fly-ins to reject it on the night.

We're all just loyal to, fear missing out on, or simply enjoy hate-watching a set of initials and some better, subjective memories.
